About this Cause
In the Southern region of Nigeria there is a refuge for the orphans and abandoned children of that nation. Many of those orphans have escaped from the persecution and killing of Christians at the hands of Boko Haram in war torn Northern Nigeria. Mother Caroline Amaka Osegbo came to Nigeria in 2003, with a desire to love the poor and destitute by founding this refuge, The Missionary Sisters of Divine Mercy. Since it’s inception, over 80 sisters have joined her, coming to serve the poorest communities, orphans and forgotten. They are living out the love of Jesus by bringing education to over 5,500 children of poverty in over eleven schools throughout Nigeria, Burkina Faso, Italy and Cameroon. They provide a safe place, education and food for over 50 orphans in Nigeria and they continue to provide tirelessly for all the needy and poor in their region. We have learned that these 80 sisters and the 50 orphans who live with them have a great need: they have no beds on which to sleep. Most sleep on the floors and share what few resources they have among them. You can help us to provide comfort to these sisters and the children they serve. It takes just $205 to provide a complete bed with a bed frame, a mattress, sheets, a blanket, a pillow and a mosquito net to protect against malaria. That’s less than $7 dollars a day for one month to give a bed to one of these precious individuals. We are asking you to join with us to provide beds for these 50 orphaned children and the selfless sisters who serve them and their entire community. They are serving as the hands and feet of Christ in a country that is too dangerous for most of us to enter, and where the persecution of Christians is real. If you would like to join with us to meet this great need, please donate today!
